The return of the 'Great British Bake Off' to our TV screens triggered a bakeware buying boom at Waitrose.
The upmarket supermarket has revealed that sales of baking trays rose by a staggering 881 percent in the last week of July, as customers anticipated the return of the much-loved series. Sales of bakeware rose by 55 percent during the same period.
The boom began around July 16, when the BBC began to trail the show, and Waitrose was not the only retailer to experience the sweet taste of Bake-Off inspired sales success.
Electrical goods retailer Currys reported an increase of 35 percent in sales of kitchen equipment in July, compared to the previous month.
And online, the number of searches for baking related items was up 116 percent in the last week of July, compared with two months previously.
