The Co-operative Food has announced the creation of 1,000 new jobs as it seeks to become the nation's leading convenience retailer.
The retailer, which currently has around eight million members and operates approximately 2,800 UK stores, is undertaking a series of store transformations and acquisitions. It also announced recently it is to spend £125 million lowering the prices of everyday items.
The new recruitment drive comes on the back of research undertaken by The Co-operative Food which showed 52 percent of consumers now shop as and when they need items, rather than doing a big weekly shop.
The retailer hopes to capitalise on this return to the way people used to shop before the advent of the big supermarkets by opening a greater number of smaller stores and ensuring these are staffed at peak times.
