Kids clothing sales help River Island profits surge almost 70 percent

River Island's foray into the lucrative childrenswear market has paid off, with a hike in profits of almost 70 percent.

Since launching River Island Mini last April, the retailer has seen profits rise to 149.1 million, compared to 88 million the previous year.

A major investment in IT systems has also paid off for the chain, with mobile traffic to the River Island website up 48 percent and click and collect sales rising by 32 percent during the same period.
