Online grocer Ocado has been the first to suffer as a result of Amazon's latest assault on the UK grocery market.
The price of Ocado shares has plummeted since the launch of AmazonFresh, fuelling concerns it could be vulnerable to a takeover by the internet colossus.
'AmazonFresh' went live on June 13, giving Amazon Prime customers in 69 central and east London postcodes the opportunity to complete their full grocery shop with the e-tailer and promising to deliver "everyday low prices".
Since Ocado's most profitable market is also London, it is understandably concerned by the potential threat AmazonFresh poses to its customer base.
A number of City experts have predicted that, if Ocado share prices continue to fall, Amazon could very well make a bid for the etailer.
