In the three months between the beginning of November 2015 and the end of January 2016, 51 percent of online sales were made from handheld devices for the first time.
The data, contained in the IMRG Capgemini Quarterly Benchmarking Report, showed that sales using mobiles and tablets were up 11 percent on the same period the previous year and had increased six percent when compared to the preceding quarter in 2015.
Smartphones accounted for 18 percent of online sales, and tablets 33 percent. Desktop and laptop computers were used in 49 percent of online sales.
