Amazon's third annual Prime Day was its biggest ever global shopping event, the online retail giant has confirmed.
Indeed, the 30 hour sales bonanza on July 11 exclusive to Amazon Prime members saw sales soar by 60 percent compared to last year and surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday records.
While full sales figures have not yet been made available, Amazon has disclosed that the most popular Prime Day purchase in the UK was its Amazon Echo, a smart voice enabled wireless speaker.
Other top sellers, excluding Amazon devices, included the Oral B Smart Series rechargeable toothbrush with Bluetooth connectivity, the Sony PlayStation 4 and a Bosch cordless combi drill.
The number of purchases made in the UK during the event is eye popping - 45,000 sets of headphones; 12,000 seeds and plants; 52,000 kitchen items; 62,000 skincare products; a staggering 232,000 home improvement products; 37,000 power tools, 309,000 toys and over 31,000 exercise and fitness products, to list but a few.
Amazon also said more new members joined the Prime service on July 11 than on any other day in its history.
