WHSmith is flying high after recording an eight percent rise in pre-tax profits.
Strong growth in the group's travel business helped secure a pre-tax group profit of £121 million for the year ending August 31, compared to £112 million during the previous 12 months.
The current enthusiasm for adult 'colouring therapy' books helped boost second half performance in the high street sector of the business, although the sale of books during the same period was flat.
Trading profits for the high street business were up two percent on the previous year, increasing from £58 million to £59 million. Travel business trading profits increased from £73 million to £80 million, a rise of ten percent.
Total sales in the high street business were down four percent on the previous year at £657 million, while the travel side of the company recorded total sales of £521 million, an increase of nine percent on 2014's performance.
