Love them or loath them, Brussel sprouts are as traditional as turkey on the Christmas table - and this year they will be bigger than ever!
The mild autumn weather has led to a harvest of super sprouts up to a third bigger than usual.
And while this may not be good news for everyone, the bumper crop has inspired food retailers to get creative with the oft maligned vegetable, with Marks and Spencer using it instead of avocado to create a guacamole style dip and other supermarkets including it in coleslaw and special seasonal salads.
The supermarkets are gearing up for the annual sprout sales surge - up to 80 percent of British Brussels are sold in the two weeks before December 25 - with Waitrose already reporting a 20 percent increase in sales of its most popular pack.
