More Co-Op stores to open as expansion drive ramps up

27 November 2017 - Janet Bird

The Co-Op is racing ahead with its ambitious expansion plans, with 17 new stores to open in the last week of November alone.

This will be the third consecutive year that the retailer has opened over 100 stores, more than the so-called 'Big Four' supermarkets - Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco - combined.

Buoyed by its £143 million purchase of convenience store chain Nisa earlier in November, the Co-Ops hunger for growth shows no sign of abating as it pledged to maintain its expansion drive into 2018 and beyond.
