'Big four' supermarket Asda is to sell its in-store photo centres and kiosks as part of a major streamlining exercise.
The retailer is selling 191 photo centres and 172 kiosks to Photo-Me International, a specialist operator of photobooths and digital printing kiosks which already has around 6,600 photo kiosks in the UK.
Photo-Me is paying £3.35 million for the business and a further £2 million for stock. It will manage the sites as in-store concessions for ten years and pay Asda commission. Asda's photo centre staff will move across to Photo-Me as part of the deal.
The streamlining exercise by Asda is part of a major drive to shed surplus services and focus on making its main grocery business more competitive in the face of strong challenges from discounters Aldi and Lidl and its 'Big Four' rivals.
