Average advertised salaries fell in 2016 with retail workers the hardest hit, a new report has claimed.

Research by jobs search engine Adzuna showed average advertised wages fell 2.7 percent in the year to November. From £33,118 in November 2015, the average advertised salary fell to £32,221 during the same month in 2016.

But in the retail sector, the average fell by a whopping 17.4 percent to £21,769, due in the main to a rise in numbers of low paid temporary jobs.

Other sectors to show a sharp fall in average advertised wages during the period included consultancy (down 16.4 percent), customer service jobs (down 11.3 percent) and warehouse jobs (down 10.3 percent).

The number of jobs advertised, however, hit a 12-month high of 1.165 million in November - up 0.2 percent on October, but down 6.4 percent when compared to the same month in 2015.
