Online retail sales were up nearly 19 percent last month on the same period last year, new figures have shown.
Data from the IMRG Capgemini eRetail Sales Index showed online sales recorded an 18.9 percent increase in October 2016 compared to the same period 12 month ago, the highest year-on-year growth in any month since November 2014.
Sales of accessories rose by an impressive 37.7 percent year on year and gift purchases were up 29.1 compared to October 2015.
Online sales of home goods also showed a strong year on year increase, up by 23.9 percent.
The number of retail transactions completed using tablets was up six percent year on year but, interestingly, only 4.1 percent of visits to websites resulted in sales, the lowest conversion rate recorded since February 2013. It is thought this may be due to people researching prices and building wish lists in readiness for Black Friday on November 25.
