More Post Office branches could be open on a Sunday by the end of 2016 than Tesco stores.
The process of modernisation currently underway at the Post Office includes plans to significantly increase opening hours.
There are currently 3,500 Tesco stores open seven days a week, making it Britain's biggest Sunday retailer.
But with 3,300 branches currently opening on Sundays, up from 2,300 at the same time last year, the Post Office seems set to overtake the supermarket chain.
The government has made around £2 billion available since 2010 to modernise the country's post offices, with 5,000 redeveloped in 2015 alone.
