Poundland purchase of 99p Stores approved

Poundland has been given the go-ahead to acquire rival 99p Stores in a 55 million deal.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) watchdog ruled there is sufficient competition from other value retailers to ensure the company does not lower the quality of its products as a result of the deal.

The CMA decision has been welcomed by Poundland, which hopes to complete the acquisition of 99p Stores by the end of September.
