Bakery chain Greggs is enjoying the sweet taste of success after its third quarter results showed sales growing faster than anticipated.
Like for like sales grew by 4.9 percent during the 13 weeks ending on October 3, while total sales for the period showed growth of 5 percent. This brings like for like sales growth for the year to date to 5.6 percent and a total sales increase of 5.1 percent.
Greggs refurbished 158 shops during the quarter and converted 20 bakery cafes to a 'bakery food on the go' format.
It plans to have refurbished 200 shops from its estate of 1,668 stores by year end and has also entered into a partnership with Euro Garages that has so far seen Greggs outlets open in 30 of their premises, with plans in place to open in 27 more.
