The weekly grocery shop now costs Brits 8.5 percent less than 18 months ago, as the ongoing supermarket price wars continue to drive down prices.

Data released by shopping comparison site mySupermarket showed the total cost of a basket of groceries continued to fall last month.

A basket of 35 supermarket basics cost £82.59 in May, compared to £86.60 at the end of the same period in 2015.

But while the overall price of a basket of shopping continues to fall, mySupermarket warned that the price of individual items continues to fluctuate, necessitating vigilance on the part of consumers to ensure they get the best deal.
